UF Homecoming 2010

While Homecoming at the University of Florida is a long established tradition, it was not always the sensational experience we have come to know today. Each year, members of the Gator Nation strive to make the Homecoming experience better than the last.

The University of Florida’s Homecoming celebration began with Dad’s Day in 1907, over one hundred years ago. This weekend served as a visitation day for fathers of the all-male student body. Over the years, it flourished into the Homecoming celebration we know today. With everything from a Parade to a Carnival to a 2-mile fun run, you don’t want to miss out on the events of 2010!

Homecoming is produced entirely by students, and is the nation’s largest event of its kind. Since its formation in 1923, Florida Blue Key, the oldest and most prestigious leadership honorary in the state, has provided the leadership and funding for Homecoming and Gator Growl. Students, alumni, and members of the Gainesville community come together for a month of fun-filled events.

Striving to commemorate all of the many accomplishments of the University from academics to sports, the Homecoming theme of 2010 is The Celebration of the Gator Nation. The events will begin on Monday, October 4th with the Homecoming Pageant and will continue through the end of October with the traditional homecoming football game. This year the Florida Gators will take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Oct. 16th.

Many aspects have changed since the first celebration of Homecoming in 1907, but one thing that always remains the same is our loyalty and love for the Gator Nation. All alumni, students, families, faculty, and friends who remember this rich history come back annually to participate in this month of incredible events.
